The construction of the police box was the part of this project that went most smoothly. I started by finding a piece of cardboard that was already folded in useful places, which helped me determine the proportions for the rest of the structure. For the exterior, I used various shades of dark blue scrapbook paper along with the patterned paper we created in class. At first, the application looked a bit rough, and I wasn’t entirely happy with it, but I quickly grew to appreciate the handmade, slightly imperfect quality it gave the piece.
Using more of our class made paper, I cut out a bold, comic book style shape to frame the box, then added blue chalk pastel to increase the contrast between the shape and background. The final piece ended up being not just fun to create, but also surprisingly engaging to look at.
