This piece may be included in my 2D AP portfolio because it captures a moment from my childhood. When I was young, I often peeled pomegranates with my grandfather, and that memory has stayed with me.
I chose watercolor partly because I need more paintings in my portfolio, but also because I wanted to challenge myself with a medium that is far less predictable than graphite. The intricate details of the pomegranate felt like the perfect subject for that challenge. After completing the main painting, I used a white watercolor pencil to brighten the highlights on each seed, which I think truly brought the piece to life.
